Five years of ACT - five perspectives
To mark this occasion, we are organising a five-part series of events in cooperation with numerous exciting partners from Freiburg: ‘Five years - five perspectives’. More details on the events can be found below.
As a scientific centre at the University of Freiburg, the ACT aims to reduce global asymmetries in knowledge production, strengthen cooperation, networking and dialogue; it also serves as a competence centre in the state of Baden-Württemberg for scientific and social exchange with Africa.
Founded in connection with the establishment of MIASA at the University of Ghana, the ACT is involved in various initiatives of the state of Baden-Württemberg, such as the Colonial Responsibility Initiative, the state partnership with Burundi and the University Network for Global Partnerships (GloPart).
Highlights of the last five years were the organisation of the annual conference of the Association for African Studies in Germany (VAD) at the University of Freiburg, the SDG University Day ‘Decolonizing partnerships’ and the active support of a current restitution process of the ‘ancestral remains’ of five people from the east of present-day Cameroon, which are part of the anthropological collection of the University of Freiburg. The ACT is co-financed by the MWK Baden-Württemberg.
