New impulse for internationalisation: University of Ghana becomes ‘enhanced partner’ of the University of Freiburg .

The ACT welcomes the enhanced partnership between the University of Freiburg and the University of Ghana

The University of Freiburg and the University of Ghana are taking their long-standing collaboration to a new institutional level with the signing of an updated Memorandum of Understanding and a Student Exchange Agreement. At this opportunity, the University of Freiburg also became the first individual German university to sign the ‘Africa Charter for Transformative Research Collaborations’: a strong signal for partnership-based academic cooperation on an equal footing.

The Africa Centre for Transregional Research (ACT) expressly welcomes this development. As a driving force for transregional perspectives and founded in the context of the establishment of MIASA (Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa) at the University of Ghana, the ACT has been committed to responsible internationalisation with Africa since 2020. The new ‘enhanced partnership’ strengthens this course and emphasises the importance of long-term institutional cooperation.

Active exchange between Freiburg and Accra has been taking place since 2019 - both at the research level and as part of study visits through Erasmus+. Information on current mobility formats and contact points for students and researchers can be found here on our website.
