Workshop-Report: East African Perspectives on Citizenship
On April 22 and 29, 2024, the workshop "Citizenship in times of change: East-African perspectives" took place in Freiburg und Basel to deepen understanding of the topic and promote cross-border discussions among colleagues.

The two-part workshop focused on the temporal dimensions of shifting citizenship affected by crises, violent conflicts and new foundations of polities, offering opportunities for mobilization (or resistance) but also potentially new restrictions on citizenship rights. It also explored how the denial of citizenship and citizenship rights during conflict or occupation influences migration decisions and experiences, and how citizenship may change due to constitutional changes or shifts in regional structures. This workshop brought together reflections on citizenship in times of change from different disciplines and with different emphases.
