Workshop “Colonialism in East Africa and its implications today"

Am 22. Februar 2024 organisierten das Institut für Caritas Studien der Universität Freiburg, der Cluster „Friedensarbeit. Koordination, Zivilgesellschaft und Forschung“ aus der Burundipartnerschaft des Landes Baden-Württemberg, das Africa Centre for Transregional Research (ACT) sowie das Arnold Bergstraesser Institut (ABI) einen Workshop zum Thema “Colonialism in East Africa and its implications today”. Das hybrid organisierte Treffen brachte Forschende aus Burundi, Ruanda, Tansania, Kamerun, Burkina Faso, Frankreich, Belgien und Deutschland zusammen. Fünf Nachwuchswissenschaftler aus der Region präsentierten ihre aktuelle Forschung. Die Kolonialgeschichte der Region und deren politische, kulturelle und ökonomische Auswirkungen bis heute wurden lebhaft diskutiert. Das Programm finden Sie hier.
 

 
On 22 February 2024, the Institute for Caritas Studies at the University of Freiburg, the Cluster "Peace Work. Coordination, Civil Society and Research" of the Burundi Partnership of the State of Baden-Württemberg, the Africa Centre for Transregional Research (ACT) and the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI) organized a workshop on "Colonialism in East Africa and its implications today". The hybrid meeting brought together researchers from Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, France, Belgium and Germany. Five young researchers from the region presented their current work. The region's colonial history and its political, cultural and economic impact to this day were the subject of lively discussion.
